| Sgt. Peter
Baudino, son of Mr. And Mrs. Lawrence Baudino,
616 Indiana Avenue was killed in a plane crash on
October 5, according to a wire received by his
parents last Thursday, October 25. Baudino was
traveling from the Mariana Islands in a B-29
which is reported by the government to have
crashed on Saipan. The message sent to the Baudino
family stated that further details would be sent
later in a letter, but as yet none have been
received. The relatives are particularly anxious
to get further word, since a newspaper account of
the incident reports the crash occurred 300 miles
from San Francisco.
Sgt. Baudino was
on his way home to receive an honorable discharge
from the armed forces in which he had been
serving for two and one-half years. He served
with an AAF bomb squadron for fifteen months.
Born in Coal City,
Illinois, March 14, 1907. Baudino moved to
Collinsville with his family when about seven
years old. He attended the Webster School here,
and was employed by the Armour Packing Company as
a carpenter and painter before he entered the
Army Air Forces.
Sgt. Baudino is
survived by his parents, three sisters, Margaret
Baudino, at home, Mrs. Eugene Gavillet and Mrs.
Dan Kerwin, both of Collinsville; two brothers,
John , living at home, and Lawrence Baudino, Jr.,
seaman first class, in the Philippines in the
Navy.
Sgt.
Baudinos wife, formerly Eveline Holtgrieve
of Collinsvile, preceded him in death three years
ago.
