Private Bruce H. Cohn , son
of Mr. and Mrs. Philip H. Cohn, of Troy Road was
officially reported having died from wounds
received in action somewhere in Italy Tuesday,
September 19. The telegram was received by his
mother Wednesday, October 11, from the War
Department.On
Friday, October 6, Mrs. Cohn received a wire from
the War Department informing her that her boy was
wounded in action on Monday, September 18. Then
last week the Cohns received a second wire
telling them their boy had died from these
injuries on September 19.
Pvt. Cohn, 21,
entered the Armed Forces in January, 1943, and
was first stationed with the cavalry at Fort
Riley, Kansas. Later he was sent overseas in
February of this year, being first stationed in
North Africa, then transferring to Italy.
In May 1944, Pvt.
Cohn was officially reported as having being
wounded in action, and during the latter part of
the same month he was presented with the Purple
Heart.
The Cohn family
last heard from their boy on Tuesday, September
12, at which time he said that he was still in
Italy. He went on to say that he had visited
Rome, and said, there is no need to worry;
if things keep going as they are at the present,
Ill be home soon.
Cohn attended the
Collinsville Public Schools, and was a member of
the Collinsville Township High School graduating
class of 1941.
Prior to induction
he worked at defense plants at both Denver,
Colorado and California.
His brother,
Arnold Cohn, is in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes,
Illinois.
