Eldon Doyle
Killed Oct 18 in Korea
Mother Receives Telegram Wednesday
Inducted in January |
Corporal Eldon Doyle, 22,
in service since January 17, was killed in action
in Korea, October 18, his mother, Mrs. Tillie
Doyle, 118 Glen Avenue, was informed in a
telegram received Wednesday.After training at Ft.
Leonard Wood, he went overseas in June. After a
period of front-line duty, he was pulled back to
a rest area. A month ago, he wrote back that he
was again going into combat. He was a member of
company A, 19TH Inf. Regt.
Corporal Doyle
graduated from Collinsville High School in 1947.
He was a member of the football team there, but
is even better known to the people of the
community from his work as an usher at the
Miners Theater. After graduation, he was
employed by the Terminal Railroad Company.
He is survived by
his mother, by one brother, Nick Doyle of Golden
Acres, by his grandfather, Pete Seipp, and other
relatives. Mr. Seipp, 95, also resides at 118
Glen Avenue. News of the death of his grandson
was a great shock to the old man, believed to be
the oldest resident of Collinsville, but he was
reported bearing up under it Thursday.

| Full military
honors will be accorded the body of Cpl. Eldon E.
Doyle, 22, at funeral services Sunday at 2 p.m.
at Schroeppel Funeral Home. Corporal Doyle was killed
in action in Korea on October 18, 1951.
His body will arrive in
Collinsville at 7:30 a.m. Friday and will lie in
state at the funeral home Friday and Saturday.
Rev. O.B. Kinsey and Rev. E.B. Purdy will be in
charge of the services. The final salute will be
given by the Scott Field firing squad. VFW Post
5691 of Collinsville will conduct the
organizations burial ritual at Caseyville
Cemetery.
Veterans of
Foreign Wars will furnish a guard of honor Friday
night, and Collinsville American Legion Post 365
will mount guard Saturday night.
Word of Corporal
Doyles death reached his mother, Mrs.
Tillie Doyle, November 7, 1951.
He was born in
East St. Louis January 20, 1929, son of the late
Nicholas Doyle and Mrs. Tillie Doyle (nee Seipp).
He attended East St. Louis public schools and
graduated from Collinsville Township High School
in 1947. He was a member of the football team at
CTHS. While still in school he was employed at
the Miners Theatre here and he was familiar
to most of the people of the town. He was
employed by the Terminal Railroad when he was
called to service January 1, 1951.
After training at
Fort Leonard Wood for six months he was sent to
Korea in June of 1951. On October 4, he wrote the
last letter to his mother, saying he was again
going into combat after a rest period from
front-line duty. He was a member of Company A,
19TH Infantry Regiment.
Corporal Doyle is
survived by his mother and one brother, Nicholas
Doyle of Golden Acres. His grandfather, Pete
Seipp, 95, is the oldest Collinsville resident.
