Walter was the son of George
& Louise Zuk; the brother of Henry Zuk &
Josephine Zuk Petersen; the husband of Barbara
Slaughter and the father of Connie Zuk Nisinger. He was a staff
sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Force during
World War II, earning a European-African-Middle
Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Battle
Stars. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled
American Veterans and the VFW Alton Post 1308.
A machinist
at Owens-Illinois for 33 years, he was a lifetime
member of the International Association of
Machinists for more than 50 years. In addition,
he was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge,
the Alton Eagles, and the East Alton American
Legion.
Walter was
married to the former Barbara Slaughter on
December 6, 1947.

Zuk, 86, died at 4:53 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27,
2007, at St. Anthony's Hospital. He was born July 1,
1920, in St. Louis to George and Louise (Stypula)
Zuk.
He and the
former Barbara Slaughter were married on Dec. 6,
1947, in Wood River. She survives.

machinist at Owens-Illinois for 33 years. He was
lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and

Association of Machinist with more than 50 years
and the East Alton American Legion.
In addition to his wife,
surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Connie
and Ralph Nisinger of Godfrey.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; a sister,
Josephine Petersen; and a brother, Henry Zuk.
Visitation
will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Paynic Home for
Funerals in Rosewood Heights.
The family
will hold private funeral services Friday at the
funeral home. Brother Nnamdi Moneme will
officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory
Gardens in Bethalto. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be given to Operation Blessing or
5A's Humane Society.
