John Ganninger (1835-1911)Civil War Veteran
Dies in Collinsville

The funeral of John Ganninger, a veteran of the Civil War took place Saturday morning from his home on Maple street at 10 o’clock to St. Peter and Paul’s church.

Mr. Ganninger came to Collinsville from Troy about a year ago and has made many friends here in the meantime. He was seventy-six years, four months and twelve days old. He in spite of not feeling strong and contrary to the wishes of his family marched with the G.A.R. and took an active part in the Memorial Day exercises. That evening on his way home stopped in to call at the home of Charles John, on St. Louis road, he seemed very fatigued and took suddenly ill. A physician was called and everything that loving hands could do was done for him, but his illness took on so serious in nature that he could not be taken to his home, several blocks farther. He was relieved of his suffering by death Thursday afternoon at two o’clock. The body was then conveyed to his home from where the funeral occurred .Deceased was a native of Germany.
