| Stephen Wilder
Gaskill was born March 31, 1813 in Madison
County, Illinois. He was of English ancestry and
the third child born to Sylvanus Gaskill and
Hannah Pickering. He enrolled as a Sergeant in Julius
L. Barnsbacks Company of the Brigade of Mounted
Volunteers at Edwardsvile, Illinois on April 18,
1832 and was mustered in on April 28 1832 at
Beardstown, Illinois. He was mustered out of
service on May 28, 1832 at the mouth of the Fox
River. He died on July 7, 1888 and was laid to
rest in the Glenwood Cemetery.
