Jitts Krapp, 34, son of Mrs. Hilda
Krapp, 624 East Main street has been officially
reported as killed in action on a Troop Transport
Ship somewhere in the European Theatre, in a
telegram received by his mother from the War
Department Monday.Krapp had been officially reported
missing in the European are since November 26,
1943. He is believed to have been lost in the
European Theatre of the Operation early in
November when his ship was sunk by a German
submarine.
Krapp entered the
service in January, 1943, and was stationed in
Mobile, Ala. He had been overseas a month,
working as mechanic in the aviation battalion.
Last December 23,
1943, Mrs. Krapp received a letter from her son
telling her that he was doing the same work
keeping em rolling, and
stating that it was very quiet. The letter was
written November 20. He said he met Ed Karvelot
at the U.S.O. in Oran on November 16, and went on
to say that there were other Collinsville boys
there, but he hadnt as yet met them.
Prior to his
induction, Krapp was employed at the
Rieder-Ahring Motor Sales as a mechanic.
