Charles Kreider, Sr., aged
84 years, a former blacksmith here and a veteran
of the Civil War, died at 11 a.m., Monday, at the
Old Soldiers Home at Quincy, where he had been
for several years. The body was brought here,
arriving Wednesday evening. The funeral will be
conducted at 2 oclock this Friday afternoon
from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Jule
Schiller at 403a East Main street. Burial will be
made in the Catholic cemetery. Five grandsons and one
great-grandson will act as pallbearers. They are
John and Julius Schiller, Fred, Philip and Karl
Kreider and Ed Martin.
Members of the
local G.A.R. Post will attend the funeral, though
Mr. Kreider was not a member of this post. *
Mr. Kreider was
born in Hesse- Darmstadt, Germany. He came to
America at the age of seven years. His earlier
manhood was spent at New Orleans and he was
married there. He came to Collinsville about
fifty years ago, and worked many years as a
blacksmith. He retired several years ago.
Mr. Kreider was a
father of sixteen children, of whom ten are
living. These ar Philip, Joseph, Frank and Julius
Kreider of Collinsville, William of Alton and
Charles of St. Louis, and Mrs. Joe Martin, Mrs.
Jule Schiller and Mrs. Peter Nearada of
Collinsville, and Mrs. Alvina Gruber of St.
Louis.

member of the Col. L.W. Shepherd Post 628, G.A.R.
at Quincy, Adams County, Illinois.
