| Pfc. Florenz
Marchiando, son of Mr. And Mrs. Albert Marchiando
of Quincy Hill, was killed in action in Germany
on April 18, according to a wire received from
the War Department by his parents on Tuesday, May
1. Marchiando
had been in service three years at the time of
his death, serving overseas since September,1944,
when he went to England. After a few days he went
to France, where he was wounded on December 8.
Pfc. Marchiando received infantry training in
Washington, Kansas and Louisiana, after a brief
stay at Scott Field, Illinois.
He was born in
Collinsville on September 4, 1912, and lived here
all his life. After attending Webster School, he
was employed at the Sugar Loaf Mine.
Besides his
parents, he is survived by two brothers, Sgt.
Charles Marchiando, in the Philippines, and Pvt.
Joe Marchiando in the East Indies.
