Pvt. Marlin Meadows, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Clem Meadows, R.R. 1, Collinsville,
died on December 3 from a cerebral hemorrhage
resulting from a skull fracture. Meadows was in
an accident, ten miles north of Chabua, India,
according to a wire received by his parents on
Friday, December 7. No details as to the nature
of the accident were included in the message.Meadows had been serving in
the Armed Forces since August 6, 1943. After
about five months of training at Camp Siebert,
Alabama, he was shipped to North Africa, where
served for a very short while. He was transferred
to India and then to the Burma theatre. His
family is of the opinion that he was being
returned to India for a return to the United
States, but no confirmation of the fact from the
government.
Pfc. Meadows was
born in Houston County, Tennessee, January 27,
1915 and was thirty years old when he met his
death. He moved to Collinsville with his family
when he was a small child, and had lived here
most of the years since then. He was employed at
the Koppers Company in Granite City before his
induction.
Besides his
parents, Pvt. Meadows is survived by five
brothers, Robert, Joseph, Herman, Ire and Paul,
all live in Collinsville, and Clyde, living in
Tennessee.
