Teen Musso, thirty-two years old,
husband of Mrs. Phillipine Musso of Superior
Drive, Belleville, and son of Baptist Musso Sr.,
of 446 Sumner street, was reported killed in
action on Thursday, April 12, somewhere in
Germany. The telegram from the War Department was
received Tuesday, April 24, by Mrs. Musso at
Belleville, and she notified the Musso family
here.Pfc.
Musso was inducted into the service of his
country on October 26, 1943, and received his
infantry training at Camp Howze, Texas. Prior to
becoming a member of the infantry, he was
stationed with the Army band at Topeka, Kansas
and Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was sent overseas
in February 1945, first arriving in Scotland,
then going to England, then to France, and
finally to Germany.
The last letter
received from Pfc. Musso by his wife was dated
Sunday, April 8, at which time he told his wife
that he had had a day off. Pfc. Musso informed
his wife that on that day he had received eight
letters from her and four from the family. He
went on to say, I am writing this letter as
I take a sun bath, everything is okay, so,
dont worry. I think the war might be over
in a couple of weeks.
Pfc. Musso was
born in Collinsville, Ill., on January 29, 1913,
and lived all his life here. He attended the
Webster School and Collinsville Township High
School, graduating with the 1932 class. He was a
member of the CTHS band, and was known to his
friends as Teen. He owned and
operated a filling station on Vandalia street,
near the high school.
He is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Phillipine Musso, his father,
Baptist Musso, Sr., three sisters, Mrs. Dora
Major, Misses Evelyn and Emily Musso, and five
brothers, Tony, Edward, Johnny, all of
Collinsville, George Musso, deputy sheriff at
Edwardsville, and Lieutenant Albert Musso,
stationed with the Army Air Transport Command
somewhere in India.
