Three Days In a Foxhole

Pvt. Clarence Nippler (1911-1944)Private C. L. Nippler, thirty-three, husband of Mrs. Noreen Nippler, Kenwood Lane, and son of Mr. And Mrs. J.L. Nippler of Lakeworth, Florida, was officially reported killed in action Monday, October 2, somewhere in France. The telegram from the War Department was received Friday October 20, by his wife who resides with her parents Mr. And Mrs. G. S. Emrich, Kenwood Lane.

Nippler, an infantryman at the time of his death entered the armed forces June 16, 1943, and received his Anti-Aircraft training at Camp Wallace and Camp Hulen, Texas. Later on he was transferred to the Infantry Replacement Battalion at Camp Doren, Mississippi and was sent overseas in August of this year, being first stationed in England, them moving on to France.

Mrs. Nippler heard last from her husband on Thursday, October 12, at which time he said, “ Honey, I’ve been in a foxhole for three or four days and this is certainly the real thing.” He went on to tell her not to worry because right at the present time,“we are certainly busy.”

Pvt. Nippler graduated from the John Adams High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended the Webster Reserve in that city as he took some advanced courses.

Nippler is survived by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. J. L. Nippler, two brothers, Sgt. G.F. Nippler, now serving somewhere in India, and P.D. Nippler, serving in Italy.

Prior to his induction Pvt. Nippler was employed as Train Clerk by the Pennsylvania Railroad.
