PFC Leroy A. Obernueffmann (1923-1944)Pvt. Leroy A. Obernuefemann, 21, son of Mrs. Catherine Obernuefemann, 400 Rebecca Ave., was killed in action in Italy on July 7 according to word received by his mother from the War Department Saturday, July 29.

Obernuefemann who entered service August 5, 1943 has been serving overseas with the infantry since February, 1944. The last letter received from him by his mother was dated June 24 and stated that his food was good and everything was fine. At no time had he mentioned the fighting or the conditions under which he was serving.

His training in the infantry was received at Ft. Riley, Kans. and Ft. Meade, Md. And prior to induction young Obernuefemann was employed in the packing department at Swift’s. He attended the local high school for two years.

Pvt. Obernuefemann is survived by his mother, a brother, Clarence, stationed for the last seventeen months with the Seabees in the South Pacific, a half sister, Mrs. Albert Gray, living in Chester, Ill., and a half brother, Arthur Obernuefemann who resides in the city.
