| John Sauer,
Senior, aged 79 years, 7 months, and 20 days died
at the family home, 116 North Chestnut at 5:45
a.m. last Saturday, the cause of death being
nephritis, and the last serious illness of the
deceased having reached back for almost a four
week period. Mr. Sauer was born in St. Louis in
1837, has lived in this vicinity for the last 28
years. He was formerly engaged in contracting, a
business which all of his sons afterwards took
up, and for some years was a farmer, but had been
retired for a number of years. 57 years ago he
was married to Miss Annie Juda and of this union
five sons and two daughters survive as follows:
John M., Thomas, Edward, Jacob and George Sauer,
all of this city, Mrs. John Mersinger, of
Collinsville, and Mrs. Edward Barnes, of Detroit,
Mich. There is also 11 grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday at 9
a.m. from SS. Peter and Paul Church, services
being said by Rev. Father Marks, and the burial
was in the Catholic cemetery.
Mr. Sauer served
in Company C of the 43rd infantry during the war
of the rebellion and was a member of the G.A.R.,
and a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church.
The bereaved
family have the entire sympathy of a host of
friends in this city and vicinity, where Mr.
Sauer was for so long an honored resident.
