Private Dominick B. Spagna,
husband of Mrs. Esther Spagna, 1101 Union street,
was officially reported killed in action Friday,
October 20, somewhere in Germany, according to a
wire received by his wife from the War
Department, Monday, December 18. Spagna, 34, is
the son of Mr. And Mrs. Severino Spagna, who make
their home with their daughter, Mrs. Rose
Alexander on Indiana avenue.Pvt. Spagna had been
previously reported missing in action on the same
day he met his death in Germany. He had been
overseas five weeks. Mrs. Spagna heard from her
husband last in a letter postmarked Sunday,
October 8.
Spagna entered the
service of his country in March, 1944, and got
his infantry training at Camp Fannin, Texas. He
was sent overseas in September, 1944, first
arriving in England, then moving to France,
Belgium and finally Germany.
Spagna was a
member of the 1928 class of Collinsville Township
High School. Prior to his induction he was
employed by the Fouke Fur Company in St. Louis.
He is survived by
his wife, his son, David Robert, a brother, James
Spagna, at home, three sisters, Mrs. Rose
Alexander, Mrs. Lena Heidenreich and Mrs.
Margaret Kress, all of Collinsville.
