Had Been in Service Thirteen Months
Overseas 10 Months

Lonnie E. Whaley (1925-1944)Technician, Fifth Grade Lonnie L. Whaley, Jr. 19, son of Mr. And Mrs. Lonnie L. Whaley, Sr., 907 Prospect street, was officially reported killed in action somewhere in Italy Thursday, June 22, in a telegram received by his mother from the War Department last Friday.

Young Whaley entered the service, May 10, 1943, and was stationed at Camp Claiborne, La., until last August. Then he was sent overseas.

On Friday, June 16th the parents received the last letter from their son somewhere in Italy stating he was getting very tired of that country. Also in the same letter he revealed that he was O.K. otherwise.

He attended the Collinsville Township High School for two years and was well known in this city.
