Hugh Wilson died at his residence on Main Street at 4:30 o'clock Friday morning. Mr. Wilson was one of Collinsville's most respected citizens, and his death was a shock to his wide circle of friends, many of whom did not know of his illness. He was stricken with paralysis Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock while walking in the yard. He was carried into the house and the family physician sent for. Twenty minutes afterwards he lapsed into unconsciousness, from which he never recovered.

Mr. Wilson was born in Zanesville, Ohio, February 25, 1839. He belonged to one of the oldest and best families in that city. His father was an extensive tobacco grower. He came to Illinois when quite young, and completed his education at Shurtleff college, Alton, locating in Collinsville about 40 years ago. Mr. Wilson was a veteran of the Civil War and a member of Sam T. Hughes Post No. 534 G.A.R. of this city, who took charge of the funeral.

Deceased leaves surviving him his widow, five sons and one daughter. Harry and Attorney I. Joel Wilson, of St. Louis, and Alex, Hugh Jr., Corwin and Miss Annie Wilson, of this city. The funeral services were conducted at the family residence at 3:30 Sunday afternoon by the Rev. W.A. Cross of the M. E. church. Interment in Glenwood cemetery.
