"The Maine Base Ball Club"

According to Sally Jordan this photo appeared in a Country Home magazine, June 1992. The article was about baseball clubs and the author mistakenly presumed that this team was from the State of Maine. Having recognized it as one which she had seen, possibly at The Maine Historical Society, she wrote to the magazine at the time and they published her letter correcting their error.

The photo is believed to have been taken in Florida just before they left for Cuba, but remembers reading that their goat mascot remained in Florida.

Her husband's ancestor was William Haze Tinsman, a Landsman on the Maine. He enlisted August 1897 at Portland Maine and was born in Susquehannah PA, Son of William Henry Harrison Tinsman. William Tinsman's grave is at the Maine Memorial in the National Cemetery in D.C. His service record is certified by C.D. Sigsbee, Commanding, USS Maine.
