The Spanish War Service Medal (shown above), was awarded for service in the Spanish American War and issued to all officers and men who served 90 days excluding the theater of operations in the war.
*NOTE: The unknown soldier is believed to be Private Wilbur W. Plank , Company G, 8th Regt. Ohio Volunteer Infantry who was a resident of Waynesboro which is located 3 miles from Roadside. He enrolled on 7 May 1898 - Camp Hastings, Mount Gretna, Lebanon Co., Pennsylvania. He was mustered in on 11 May 1898 at Camp Hastings and mustered out at Camp Mackenzie, Augusta, Georgia.
