Born on April 14, 1879 in Belleville, St. Clair County, Illinois, Edgar enlisted as a Private on 26 April 26, 1898 at Belleville. He was mustered in 19 May 1898 at Camp Tanner in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois.

Discharged on 14 Feb 1899 by direction of Secretary of War through Headquarters Division of Cuba, on July 25, 1899, at Camp Columbia, Havana, Cuba; Edgar died 25 Jan 1951 at St. Mary's Hospital, East St. Louis, St. Clair County, Illinois. He was laid to rest on 27 January 1951 at Greenmount Cemetery, Belleville, Illinois.

The medal, posted above, was issued to all officers and men who served in the Army of Occupation commencing after the surrender of Santiago until May 20, 1902. The Sixth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry served in the Army of Occupation.
