William H. Ward Headstone - Greenmount CemeteryWilliam H. Ward was born on 25 Sep 1876 in Belleville, St. Clair County, Illinois. He enlisted as a Private on 26 April 26, 1898 at Belleville, Company D., 4th Illinois. He was mustered in on May 19, 1898 at Camp Tanner in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois; and mustered out on 02 May 1899 at Camp McKenzie, Augusta Georgia.

William died 30 Apr 1938 in Belleville, St. Clair County, Illinois and was laid to rest on 03 Mar 1938 at Greenmount Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois.

The medal, posted above, was issued to all officers and men who served in the Army of Occupation commencing after the surrender of Santiago until May 20, 1902. The Sixth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry served in the Army of Occupation.
