Jasper was born 15 May 1874 in Lexington, Lauderdale County, Alabama. He enlisted as a Private in Company K 8th United States Infantry on 17 October 1898 at Camp Wheeler in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama.

He was discharged by General Order # 40 AGO on 12 May 1898 at Camp Wheeler.

Jasper died 18 April 1952 at the V.A. Hospital in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennesse. He was a resident of Huntsville at the time of his death. He was laid to rest at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville. Betty Cash marked his grave in 2004. He had remained a forgotten warrior for 52 years until the recent marking.

NOTE: The Spanish Service medal, posted above left, was awarded for service in the Spanish American War and issued to all officers and men who served 90 days excluding the theater of operations in the war.
