J.W. Madosh, 87
Spanish-American War Veteran, Dies |
John W. Madosh, 87, one of the few
remaing veterans of the Spanish-American War in
this area, was pronounced dead on arrival at St.
Elizabeth Hospital at 10:10 p.m.. Wednesday after
an illness of two days. Death was due to an
apparent heart attack. He lived at 129 Big Four
place, Mitchell.Mr. Madosh was a native of Casco,
Wis., and lived in Mitchell 41 years, moving
there from Terre Haute. Ind. He was retired from
Shell Oil Co., where he worked 21 years as a
pipe-fitter.
He was a member of
the Mitchell Presbyterian Church, a life member
of the Shell Service Club, a member of the
Mitchell-Chouteau Kiwanis Club and V.F.W. Post
1300.
He is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Edith Madosh, a son, Ted Madosh of
Granite City: three daughters, Mrs. Charles
(Letha) Kibler and Mrs. William (Blanche) Siner,
both of Mitchell, and Mrs. John (Jessie) Williams
of Cape Girardeau, Mo., a half-sister, Mrs.
Edward (Irene) Norling, Alexandria, Minn.; two
brothers, Louis Madosh of Mitchell and Oscar
Madosh of Lapel, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Lillard
(Daisy) Vandiver of Grape Creek, Ill., and Mrs.
Patrick ( Anna) Kelbrick, of the state of
Washington, seven grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.

OBITUARY

| John W. Madosh,
87, of 129 Big Four Pl., Mitchell, was pronounced
dead on arrival at 10:10 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's
Hospital, Granite City. He was taken to the
hospital from his home where he had been ill two
days. Services
will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mitchell
Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Di
Giacumo, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in
Sunset Hill Cemetery, Edwardsville Township.
Friends may call at the Sedlack Funeral Home,
Granite City, after 7 p.m. today and until noon
Saturday.
Mr. Madosh was
retired from Shell Oil Co., where he had been a
pipe-fitter 21 years. He was a veteran of the
Spanish-American War and was a member of the
V.F.W. Post 1300, the Mitchell-Chouteau Kiwanis
Club, the Mitchell Presbyterian Church and a life
member of the Shell Service Club. He was born in
Casco, Wis., and had lived in the Mitchell area
41 years.
Surviving are his
wife Edith; a son Ted Madosh of Granite City;
three daughters Mrs. Charles (Letha) Kibler and
Mrs. William (Blanche) Siner, both of Mitchell,
and Mrs. John (Jessie) Williams of Cape
Girardeau, Mo.; two brothers Louis Madosh of
Mitchell and Oscar Madosh of Lapel, Ind.; two
sisters, Mrs. Lillard (Daisy) Vandiver of Grape
Creek, Ill., and Mrs Patrick (Anna) Kettrick of
Washington; a half-sister Mrs. Ed (Irene) Morling
