Orrin G. Rawson an Inquiring Mind
From a story by Mildred Silver
May 24, 1962
Orrin "O.G." Rawson is Commander of the 159th Indiana Volunteers Association, "high private in the rear rank." He drives each October to the reunion in Bloomington, Indiana, but the group is dwindling fast. There are only twenty-three of the 1300 in the regiment still living and he is the only one left of the 108 in Company B. Orrin says he is going to be the last surviving Spanish American War Veteran.

The Stars and Stripes-The National Tribune
June 18, 1970
Comrade Rawson was Commander of the Dept. Of Illinois, United Spanish War Veterans in 1948 and again in 1968. During the latter term his wife, Katherine, was Dept. Auxiliary president. He is now serving the second time as junior vice commander. There are not enough capable comrades to go around in the Dept. Offices. Those who can serve are used where needed.

Only 60 Spanish War Veterans are left in the entire state of Illinois.

In the Nelson A. Miles Camp No. 61 of East. St. Louis, to which Comrade Rawson has belonged since 1915, there are four living members.
