Master of Ceremony, President Eugene T. Beals, of Nelson A. Miles Camp No. 610
accepted the following Proclamation from Collinsville Mayor Stan Schaeffer which reads:



	WHEREAS, Spanish-American War Veterans were veterans of America's first war for humanity;
and
	WHEREAS, these members are veterans of the only 100% volunteer army the world has ever known;
and
	WHEREAS, these veterans fought the War with poor equipment, poor food, antiquated guns and black powder;
and
	WHEREAS, this war caused the improvement in maintenance of the Army and Navy and for the formation of a standing army through training camps;
and
	WHEREAS, this war caused the industrial revolution of the South; and
	WHEREAS, this war caused the U.S.A. to take the head of the table in the concert of Nations; and
	WHEREAS, this war marked the last great conflict between the people of a free, self-governing Republic and that of the last absolute monarchy; and
	WHEREAS, four hundred and fifty-eight thousand were engaged in this conflict, exceeding the number of those engage in the Revolutionary War, the Mexican War, and the War of 1812;
and
	WHEREAS, the Spanish American War veterans have adopted the motto, "Freedom, Patriotism, and Humanity";
and
	AND THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED, that I, Stan Schaeffer, Mayor of the City of Collinsville, do herby recognize the efforts and achievements of the
Spanish American War Veterans
