T.A. Riggin Dies at 75, Veteran of Spanish War

Trooper Thomas A. Riggin (1877-1952)
T. Albert Riggin, 445 South Clinton, retired grocer who had been in poor health since 1937, died at 11:50 am Wednesday at the age of 75. Death occurred at the Veterans Hospital, Jefferson Barracks, where he was taken Saturday for the fifth time in the past 15 years.

He was one of the city's two surviving veterans of the Spanish-American War. He served with Troop D, 2nd U.S. Cavalry, the only man in Troy in that war. Born in Jarvis Township near Troy, son of the late Mr. And Mrs. John Riggin, he moved here in 1900 to enter the grocery partnership with his brother Henry. From 1905 to 1941, he operated the grocery business himself. He retired at that time because of poor health.

His father had died when he was a small boy and he worked on the farm from the age of 7 until he was 21, when he entered the Cavalry.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday. The body will be removed from Herr Funeral Home at 10:30a.m. to First Presbyterian Church, where Rev. William Sill will deliver the funeral sermon at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.
