
T. Albert Riggin, 445 South Clinton, retired
grocer who had been in poor health since 1937,
died at 11:50 am Wednesday at the age of 75.
Death occurred at the Veterans Hospital,
Jefferson Barracks, where he was taken Saturday
for the fifth time in the past 15 years.He was one of the city's
two surviving veterans of the Spanish-American
War. He served with Troop D, 2nd U.S. Cavalry,
the only man in Troy in that war. Born in Jarvis
Township near Troy, son of the late Mr. And Mrs.
John Riggin, he moved here in 1900 to enter the
grocery partnership with his brother Henry. From
1905 to 1941, he operated the grocery business
himself. He retired at that time because of poor
health.
His father had
died when he was a small boy and he worked on the
farm from the age of 7 until he was 21, when he
entered the Cavalry.
Funeral services
will be conducted Saturday. The body will be
removed from Herr Funeral Home at 10:30a.m. to
First Presbyterian Church, where Rev. William
Sill will deliver the funeral sermon at 2 p.m.
Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.
