The memorial was dedicated November 12, 1934 at the Municipal Courts Plaza at the corner of 12th and Chestnut. The marble shaft consists of three allegorical figures. The two nude giants represent courage and loyalty. A bronze tablet with a inscription is placed between them. The third figure of a woman symbolizes peace and prosperity.

The base and shaft total 15 feet in height and support a 50 foot flag pole. Victor Holm, a St. Louis sculptor from the Art School of Washington University was the sculptor of the war memorial.
