Pvt. John Francis Tobnick (1875-1950)
John Francis Tobnick, of 100 Crandall Street, died at 12 o'clock noon on Monday, April 3, at the age of 75 years. He was born August 15, 1874 in Pentzberg, Germany. He came to the United States and to this vicinity in 1883. He was a member of the Nelson A. Miles Camp No. 61, Spanish War Veterans, who took part in the services.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday from the Schroeppel Funeral Home, Rev. Francis Roschke officiating. Internment was in St.John's Cemetery.

There are five daughters surviving; Lucile Wedemeyer (Leo), of Centralia; Frances Lingle (Francis), of Vandalia; Dorothy Lorenz (Albert) of Collinsville; Mabel Krietemeyer (Walter) of Collinsville; and Carrie Schwartz (Walter), of Edwardsville; one brother, Frank Tobnick, of Royalton, and ten grandchildren.

The following served as Pall Bearers: Franklin Mann, Martin Lauth, John Buetikofer, William Thompson, Harold Mann, and Dale Lauth.

NOTE: The Spanish War Service Medal (above), was awarded for service in the Spanish American War and issued to all officers and men who served 90 days excluding the theater of operations in the war.
