Thomas Jefferson Armistead (Armstead) Thomas J. Armstead Private Co. I, 26th MO Inf Full muster record: age 18; height 5' 6"; dark hair; blue eyes; florid complexion; single; farmer; born in Franklin county, Missouri; residing at Union, Franklin county, Missouri, at time of enlistment on Sep. 21, 1861; mustered into service on Dec. 25, 1861 at Pacific, Missouri, by Captain Harper. From the Obituary of Thomas J. Armistead Thomas Jefferson ARMISTEAD, Jr., was born Nov 20 1844 in Missouri and died October 29, 1922, in Franklin County, MO. He was the son of Thomas Jefferson ARMISTEAD, Sr., and Emily Ann Grooms. He married Sarah E. Bandy Aug 9 1865. To this union was born one child, Mrs. Carrie E. Cooper who survives him. His first wife having passed away he was married to Nancy Brown in 1868. To this union were born 3 children of whom only one child, Joseph ARMISTEAD survives him, preceded in death by George and John H. ARMISTEAD. He was soon left alone again, as his second wife departed Feb 1872. On March 31, 1875, he was married to Mrs. Sarah J. Conners (nee Bandy) who survives him. Also eight children, Clarence Lafayette ARMISTEAD, Sylvester Monroe ARMISTEAD, George Washington ARMISTEAD, Phoebe H. ARMISTEAD, Thomas Jefferson Los Angeles ARMISTEAD, Mrs. Victoria Caldonia Lawrence, Mrs. Locky Jane Laubinger and Richard Marcellius ARMISTEAD. Thomas Jefferson ARMISTEAD went to the war in place of his father. He is buried in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery near Sullivan Missouri on Hwy. 185.
