John W. Blankenship John W. Blankenship private Co. E, 26th MO Inf. Full muster record for John W. Blankenship: age 43 at enlistment; height 6' 1/2"; grey hair; grey eyes; florid complexion; married; occupation farmer; born in Rutherford county, North Carolina; at time of enlistment, residing in Jefferson City, Missouri; enlisted October 26, 1861; mustered in on January 9, 1862, at Chamois, Missouri by a Lieut. William Wherry; Discharged Oct 24, 1862 at Corinth, Miss by order of Gen. Halleck. A military headstone was placed near his grave somewhere in Wallowa county, Oregon. He died July 9, 1895. The stone was made by W. H. Gross company of Lee, MA. The order was placed Oct. 30, 1896. 1 1.
