Full muster record for Joshua Brake:  age 19 at enlistment; height 5' 7"; black hair; blue eyes; fair complexion; single; occupation farmer; born in Hamilton county, Kentucky (Illinois was the more likely location); at time of enlistment, residing in Union, Franklin county, Missouri; enlisted September 21, 1861; Before he could muster, Joshua died of disease on December 20, 1861 in Pacific, Mo. 

Joshua A. Brake was born about 1844 in Illinois the son of John R. Brake and Mary E. "Polly" Boster.  Polly Boster was the sister of Thomas Levi Boster, who was the father of Daniel and Joseph Boster also of company I.  John R. Brake, who was born in Kentucky or Tennessee about 1820, married Mary E. Boster on August 6, 1840, in Hamilton, Illinois.  Polly, as she was known to her family, was born in Virginia about 1823.  Polly and John would have several children.
