George Franklin Coffelt

George F. Coffelt  private Co. H, 26th MO Inf 

George Franklin Coffelt was born on October 17, 1832 in Marion county, Tennessee.  His father was Abraham Coffelt who was born December 27, 1793 in Virginia.  Abraham married Elizabeth Shetter/Shutter on Jun 21, 1815 in Claiborne county, Tennessee.  Elizabeth was born on January 10, 1801 in Tennessee.  The following were the children of Abraham and Elizabeth Coffelt:

George's sister, Clarandy Coffelt, married Wilson Shirley, a private in company H of the 26th Missouri.

George Coffelt, who was married and a farmer living near Chamois in Osage county, Missouri, enlisted in the 26th Missouri on November 2, 1861 and was mustered at Castle Rock, Missouri, on January 10, 1862.  He was 5' 9 3/4" tall with light colored hair, grey eyes and a fair complexion.  He died of disease on July 12, 1863, in St. Louis.
