Joel Jones

Joel Jones  2nd Corporal  Co. F, 26th MO Inf 

Full muster record for Joel Jones:  age 24 at enlistment; height 5' 10"; auburn hair; black eyes; dark complexion; single; occupation farmer; born in Tyler county, Virginia; at time of enlistment, residing in Franklin county, Missouri; enlisted September 20, 1861; mustered in on December 17, 1861, at Pacific, Missouri by a Captain Harper (not from the 26th); discharged for disability May 26, 1862 at Farmington, Miss. By order of Maj. Gen. Halleck.

A military headstone was placed near his grave in the village cemetery at Sand Mountain, in Dade county, Missouri.  He died in 1863. The stone was made by W. H. Gross of Lee Mass.  The order was placed Sept. 26, 1886. 1

The above record of the military stone of Joel Jones indicates that he died in 1863, however the regimental history has a brief note about Joel Jones being a doctor in Dade county in 1891.  He is also listed as a survivor of company F of the regiment and living in Greenfield, Mo.
